Visionaire: A Tribute to Lee Alexander McQueen

The death of Alexander McQueen is one of the most shocking news in fashion world. His career looked bright and the brands were making profit. But then, like many things in life, bang, you’re gone.

Visionnaire the magazine whose name is closest to the master McQueen himself, has tributed its latest issue for the legendary designer of the decade with the title “Spirit”. The books are made of special papers embedded with wildflower seeds which you can grow plants for real! Nick Knight, Lady Gaga (no surprise!), Steven Klein and Mario Testino are among the contributors to those photos feauring different collections.
The book looks gorgeous and the pictures are just beyond extraordinary. But the biggest problem is the price. At $295 , like any other issue with different special featues, is too much for me. I love McQueen and the book, but with this price I’ll wait for a real book with his complete collections throughout his life.

Mob-F Sale

Mob F at Siam Center has become one of my favorite shops with wide selection on independent designers’ goods. It’s like another Suanlum Night Bazaar with much higher price. But when the iconic Suanlum is sinking, Mob F is a good choice especially during the sale period.

From Today to July 31. Merchandises with reduction up to 50 percent on selected items. Yes, wise shoppers have to be careful with these two terms: UP TO and SELECTED ITEMS. What they select might not be on your list, but it’s worth looking anyways.

Review: Sex and the City 2

We love Sex.

From single girls wondering around Manhatton 12 years ago, to married women (who’d have thought?) of today, Sex and the City always has been icon of it all. City life, single woman, shoes (from Manolo to Louboutin), and of course fashion! Sex and the City 2 is expected to be a big hit, even in Thailand, with lots and lots of product placement througout the movie.
I’m quite surprised with myself too that I can’t write a review on this movie I’ve been waiting forever. It’s just wordless. When you know someone well, you don’t know how to describe her in exact words.
The story is more about middle-aged women and their marriages. Although Samantha is the only one who sticks to her fling habit, we have to admit that they age. Everything from their attitude to their evidence of wrinkles, is another aspect of Sex and the City which I’m not used to. Maybe it’s not the right time for me to age with them right now. The plot gets more complex and more realistic to real people’s lives aside from their unaffordable clothes.

Another change is that it loses strong point of New York City. Carrie&Co has always been a part of Manhattan and so few scenes are shot in NYC. Too much of the Emirates! I know they’re trying to make it the new Middle-East, but that is just…too much.

You’ll love it if you are ready to grow up with the girls you’re used to. But for me, I’ll stick to the series version which I watch repeatedly. And if you’re in early 20s, The Carrie Diaries, the Cundace Bushnell book, is more suitable for you. If you are ready to settle down, you need to book a ticket right now.

Crisis for Sellers, Opportunity for Buyers

Thailand has just faced the most cruel and damaging moment ever. Many retailers in Siam and Ratchaprasong areas have no place to sell their products–and some were robbed during the turmoil. Spending is the probably the easiest way we can do to help them…and of couse it’s an excuse to shop! Many stuffs are on sale and some are in deep discount. So stock up if you know you need certain things in your closet. Don’t just splurge impulsively.
Furthermore, a bit less guilt free, you can shop cheaper European goods thanks to the weak euro. Now you can multiply the price with 40 which makes things look cheaper. Plus, you don’t have to pay for European taxes so that LV you have eyed on becomes much cheaper. But be aware if it is shipped to Thailand via post or FedEx, you’ll have
to pay up to 40 percent for the custom! Yeah, think carefully before you shop.
Finally, the SET is on sale as well. Hopefully it will get better soon. We can see the slight recover recently. But on the bright side, now it’s your chance to collect good stocks with cheap prices as welld. But no one knows whether it hits the bottom yet. So your cheap stocks today can be even cheaper tomorrow.

Just be careful and enjoy shopping!

Yes or No?: DKNY Abtract Leather Tote

I was browsing for information, really, but ended up wanting this bag so much! DKNY Abstract-paneled leather tote at £345.18 from net-a-porter is such a perfect bag! With the grey color contrasting with the color block and abstract and metal adornments. I’m in love!

Help me out of this flame. Is it too feminine for me? Too small? Too something? Any comment at all? Plus, the price is sooo affordable. It’s like no more than 15k in Thai baht. However, I don’t think I’m gonna buy it soon because I prefer seeing it in person first. Just like internet dating, you can’t trust things you see on the internet.

But what if Club21 buyers decided not to bring this item to Thailand? And most importantly, do you think it’s an investment or just a quick crush? What do you think?

Bangkok Shopping Situation: Emporium Mode Stadium and Club21 2nd Round Sale

I’ve been in Emporium Stadium Mode Sale Round 2 (click the link for detail but this round ends on June 14) and surprised by some new brands. It’s more like shopping in Emporium department section than a sale event. GAP (with no sale sign) and shoe salons (don’t miss Aldo) and men departments are there. I was there at 5.30pm but not many people which was good. Likewise, the Emporium has become less crowded, I guess they all go to Siam Paragon instead.

Speaking of Siam Paragon, I spotted this upcoming GAP store and I was breathless. HUGE is the word. Just too huge for GAP. I don’t think GAP can do well in Thailand’s market especially now. But maybe I’m wrong. Wait ’til I have enough money to afford H&M chain! Yeah, it’s so far away. But a dream is a dream you know? You just can’t live without one.

Don’t forget to shop around Bangkok today. Silom (vendors from Silom, Victory Monument and Platinum), Siam (Soi 4), Thong Lo Arena 10, and so on. Just too many places to shop. Too many.

Sarah Burton Becoming New Creative Director At Alexander McQueen

Gucci Group has announced officially that the one who will take the reign of Alexander McQueen is Sarah Burton. She’s a graduate of Centrail Saint Martins and has worked with McQueen himself since 1996. She’s really close to Lee McQueen and has translated his over the top design on catwalk to commercial pieces, which made the line profitable in recent years.

I know she doesn’t establish her name in fashion world yet and there’ll be a lot of pressure for her first collection next season. But if you know about the master McQueen himself, you’ll learn that like Burton, he was no one when he became the director of Givenchy. And it takes some time to prove the world that one is real.

Jean Paul Gaultier Leaving Hermès

Bye-bye Gaultier

It’s official Jean-Paul Gaultier is leaving Hermès as a artistic director of 7 years. Spring/Summer 2011 will be his last collection. The maison Hermès said that they retain a good relationship and the company still holds 45 percent in JPG’s eponymous line. Christophe Lemaire, now at Lacoste, is confirmed to take this prestigious position after him. Hermès also said that JPG will have more time to concentrate on his own label.

Personally, I think that it’s time for him to rest because both brands he’s taking care of are losing their appeal to customers. I don’t know much about Christophe Lemaire, only read an article on Lacoste once, but I think despite the price range, he’ll be fine at Hermès. The reason is that the two brands rely on its established reputation (and certain things like Birkin or alligator logo) and conservativeness. But who knows, Lemaire might be next Christophe Decarnin at Balmain who completely changes the house to an edgy one and creat the buzz around, isn’t it?
